Dear Subscriber,
As the new year begins, we are excited to share an overview of GU Orbit’s projects and plans for the months ahead. This newsletter includes updates on our current projects, upcoming events, open positions, and a recap of last year’s key milestones.
OUR CURRENT PROJECTS
Astraeus-01
Astraeus-01 is our main 3U CubeSat mission still under development. Its aim is to fight wildfires from space by predicting their risk and severity through advanced Earth observation techniques. Click here to read more!
CloudView 2
CloudView 2 will test CubeSat components on a stratospheric balloon to support our Astraeus-01 mission. This project builds on CloudView 1 by incorporating advancements such as an extendable antenna, enhanced imaging capabilities and on-board image processing as well as solar panels.
Competition Teams
Last year we welcomed the competition teams to our society where we invited our members and other students to take part in space-related competitions. This year, our members will be taking part in three competitions:
Airbus Competition Team
In this competition, our students will develop innovative startup concepts for using asteroids and comets, based on Airbus-set requirements, and commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Rosetta mission.
Satellite Design Competition Team
The SDC competition challenges our students to design and build a CubeSat prototype based on a particular challenge and theme within the space industry.
Olympus Rover Trials Team
In this competition, GU Orbit members will design, build, and test their own Mars rover.
